Cindy V. Tisdale

Cindy is a graduate of Baylor University School of Law. In addition to her current role as President of the State Bar of Texas, she is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a fellow of the prestigious International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Cindy is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and assists clients with divorce and custody issues.
Please share some memorable moments from your career.
I have practiced family law for 28 years, so there are too many to recount! The ones that do come to mind are the cases where I have helped children. I started my career as an Assistant District Attorney, and I handled all of the CPS cases. When I took the job, there were dozens of children in foster care waiting for the parental rights to be terminated so they could move forward with a forever family. Most of these cases had requested a jury, so I tried a jury case almost every other week to free these children for adoption. That passion carried over when I moved to private practice. I feel like I make a difference when I can help remove a child from an abusive situation or be an advocate for a child so they have a voice in court.
What are your hobbies?
I love to travel, which is a good thing as President of the State Bar! I am not picky about where I go, just the ability to go somewhere different is recharging for me.
Do you have any special interests or fun facts you would like to share?
I am a Ted Lasso fanatic. I have a CLE program I give on “Professionalism: What Would Ted Lasso Do?” that draws a parallel between our Texas Lawyers Creed and Rules of Professional Conduct and a lesson Ted imparts on the show. I have watched each season at least twice and several individual shows multiple times. I love a show that makes me smile and also teaches me something along the way.
Why did you join the College?
The resources available to me as a member of the College are invaluable! The one I use the most is the library of CLE articles available for free to members. That is usually the first place I look if I have a question of law I need answered. It is a great jumping-off point for my research. ♦
